Turkey season will kick off across Mississippi in just a few weeks, and hunters can make sure they’re ready for Opening Day with a stroll through the Mississippi Outdoor Expo this February in Jackson.
Youths ages 15 and under will get a week’s head start on the grownups with a March 8-14 season on private and authorized state and federal public lands. The rest of Mississippi’s hunting population will get six more weeks, March 15-May 1, to fill their three tags with long-bearded birds.
Plenty of vendors will be offering the latest in turkey calls, shotguns and shells, along with the best in camouflage clothing in a number of different, popular patterns for hunters preparing to take to Mississippi’s woods and fields in pursuit of the lordly turkey gobbler.
If you’re looking to add a box, slate, mouth or wingbone call to your hunting vest, the Mississippi Outdoor Expo will be just the place to find it. And with deer season barely in the rear-view mirror, you can expect to find plenty of deer-hunting gear at post-season prices.
Hunters harvest close to 25,000 turkeys in an average Mississippi season.
